The American Turkish Society is pleased to present a panel discussion on the pressing foreign policy, security, and humanitarian demands for Turkey and the U.S. caused by the rise of Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.

The speakers are:

  • Ambassador James Jeffrey (Former U.S. Ambassador to Turkey and Iraq, and currently at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy)
  • Dr. Ömer Taşpınar (Senior Fellow, The Brookings Institution)

The speakers will speak on the respective topics:

Ambassador James Jeffrey will speak on areas of possible cooperation between the United States and Turkey in the area of foreign policy and obstacles facing such cooperation.

Dr. Ömer Taşpınar will speak on how Turkey’s domestic politics, including its Kurdish question, affect Turkey’s response to the ISIS challenge as well as interdynamics of different Kurdish organizations in Turkey, Syria, and Iraq.

This discussion will be moderated by Mr. Noel Lateef, President & CEO of the Foreign Policy Association.
